It is asked often, that if the doors of your church were to close would your community even notice?
I suppose one could argue that an effective church is viable to a community, but in what measure? Some would think it to be the responsibility of the church to feed the hungry, to meet the financial needs of the poor, to provide programs like VBS, ESL, or even day care so that weary mothers could ca...tch a nap...those things are good this I will not deny; but a church must first be intent on worshipping God, pleasing God, praying to God, and submitting to God. The spiritual aspect of the church cannot be lost in humanitarian efforts, performances, or carefully constructed programs...those efforts must be birthed from the leading and guiding of the Holy Spirit or else they become edifices of man's ability to meet man's desire to be glorified by men. It is never my hope that we be recognized as the church that provides presents at Christmas if we are not first realized as the church that bestows honor upon the God who gave us His only Son as the atonement for our sins.
We exist as a church to make disciples, to reach the lost with the Good News of Jesus, and to baptize those who will accept Him as their Savior in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And this we shall do by any means we determine as bringing glory to our Lord.
That is my heart on the matter
