Current Conditions:Ephesians 6:12-13 - “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.” Enjoy Life
"It is a rare person who, when his cup frequently runs over, can give thanks to God instead of complaining about the limited size of his mug!" Perspective is a great tool by which those things that were out of focus are made clear in our understanding. For instance, we observe that life is sometimes tough, that in our limited capacity we are often less than we need to be in order to accomplish what we most desire. We lack the knowledge, ability, or funds to do the things we think will bring us the most enjoyment. It seems a simple enough concept to believe more is better, but in perspective, more is not better, in fact having more can be harmful. Solomon in the book of Ecclesiastes gives us understanding that we are viewing life from a finite perspective. He points out that life is empty of all value when it is based on self-indulgence, material gain or achieving knowledge. Solomon says that there is no real satisfaction in this life and that we are all striving for more, more, more but never attaining satisfaction. It is easy to see how relevant Ecclesiastes message is in light of how quickly our world changes. Bigger, better, brighter, and easier are the promises we are served in a commercialized world. The tag lines of an industrialized people who think that we will find enjoyment in the next new thing are but empty promises. The question comes are we really finding any enjoyment in life? Solomon had tested life with his storehouses of wealth, and his wisdom unfathomable and found one answer – there is no joy apart from knowing God. You can have it all and not enjoy any of it, if you do not know Him who has provided it. The long and short of life is that we all live, we all die, so rather than fill our lives with empty materialism, or self-indulgence in learning all the facets of this world’s workings – we need to understand where our joy really lives. Are you finding enjoyment in this life? The answer maybe is found when you take your eyes off the size of your mug and focus on Him who made it to run over. Perspective changes everything and I have a feeling if we could see beyond this dimension, we would see everything is beautiful in its time. | ![]() First Baptist Church 204 W.
